Goldensun Community Celebrates Milestone

Goldensun residents, volunteers, and community supporters celebrated the beginning of a new adventure for the Goldensun Community.   After having finalized a contract with the Arizona State Department of Economic Security to provide Vendor Services for our residents, the Goldensun Community has much to celebrate.  The party at the Bridge featured the Ragamuffin stampede, a local band that includes Goldensun supporters and staff.  The SOOP volunteers joined the Goldensun Board, Residential staff, Trinity Mennonite Church staff and others from the community in giving a send off to this important milestone for the six year old Goldensun organization.

Open House Progressive Lunch

The Goldensun Board and volunteers and the SOOP volunteers hosted an Open House on Sunday, January 16.  Each of the six Goldensun houses and the Bridge had a different food selection.   Many people were introduced to Goldensun for the first time.  Several families expressed interst in having their family members join our unique Community.  The community came alive as the guests circulated between the homes on a beautiful day in the Valley of the Sun.

Tuesday Community Carry-In Dinners  -
On the first Tuesday of each month there is a carry-in dinner in the Trinity Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall for Goldensun clients, staff, volunteers and you. Bring your favorite dish and share it with us. You will enjoy the fellowship.

A Bridge to the Community

“Let’s meet at the Bridge,” is a statement often heard in the Goldensun community.  Originally intended as a place for arts, crafts, and activities for the Goldensun Day Program, the Bridge is doing just what it was named to do- serve as a Bridge to the wider community.

The renovated garage and workshop has a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a computer lab and a large conference table. The Bridge is used for Goldensun Board and other meetings and now the computer lab has been transformed into the office of the Director, Jean June, who has appreciated a space that stays cool in the summer!

This wonderful space was created by the 2009 SOOP volunteers, another example of the tremendous contributions the SOOP volunteers are making to our community.

The Youth groups at Trinity Mennonite Church have been using the Bridge for their Swim Studies, spending about an hour inside with Bible studies, singing and sharing, followed by recreational time in the pool.  The 6th - 8th graders meet Wednesday afternoons and bring a lunch, while the 9th -12th graders bring ingredients and make supper together Wednesday evenings before starting devotionals.
